A sweet christmas gift

Several years ago, I couldn't say exactly, you had a neighbor move into the duplex next door to yours in D'Iberville, MS. You were kind to her in passing, she did not speak english and had several kids including a lil baby and toddler. I guess the first time you spoke to her was because she dropped a prescription on the ground and you knocked on her door. She somehow communicated that she could not afford to get it filled so you took her down to an agency that filled prescriptions for free and she was very thankful. Helping that woman made lifted you up and made your eyes shine. You told me about your friend next door and how even though you spoke different languages you were able to communicate. You even went out and got a spanish/english dictionary for her. Anyway, Christmas rolled around and you were worried about whether her children would get any gifts. You knew that for a mother her concern wasn't about herself; yours never was. As a mother and grandmother your children and grandchildren came first always; the best way you knew how. Anyway, you and I went out shopping and we found this reading toy that taught both spanish and english both. You thought the toy was so neat and that it might even help the mother learn a few words. We also got some kind of little toy that danced for the young baby. You talked about how when you gave it to them the baby just danced and danced. When you gave them their presents you said their house was empty and they were the only toys they had. You said the child looked like it had never seen a toy before. Anyhow, anytime debate came up about immigration all you had to say was that people came here to get a better life and that if they wanted to work then let them. You told me when you were younger you had wanted to get a car full of toys and clothes and drive it to Mexico ever since you had visited there and seen how desperate people were there. I think you lived so much through me... and trust me, I will make you proud and I will carry on for you. There is so much left undone and so much I will do and in your name. I love you.
