Mom survived Katrina and the aftermath because of termites. She usually went to my sister's house for hurricanes, but her house was being treated for termites. One of the biggest waves hit and gutted my sister's house. Many of us tried to get her to leave and come to more comfortable places, but I think she enjoyed the all the action and community that was going on down there at the time.
